Current retirement plan design elements and public policies within the U.S. may be inadvertently disadvantaging certain cohorts of individuals, such as racial and ethnic minority groups, women, and the lower-income population. The American Academy of Actuaries recently published “Improving Retirement Outcomes: Demographic Considerations,” a policy paper reviewing data on adverse retirement outcomes for these cohorts, and presenting possible plan design and public policy approaches to address them. On Wednesday, December 11th at 2 pm ET, the National Institute on Retirement Security (NIRS) held a webinar to discuss the paper with two lead authors, Claire Wolkoff, MAAA, chair of the Academy’s Retirement Policy and Design Evaluation Committee, and committee member Connie Rydberg, MAAA. They shared highlights of the paper and discussed how policymakers might draw on the paper’s analyses in addressing concerns.
